Example Client Engagements
- Helped transition fifth generation 90-year old family-owned business in the Southwest with over 60 shareholders and 19 family employees, the largest in their food industry segment, to an effective governance structure including four Family Councils representing each branch of the family as well as a Board of Directors with three outside members. Facilitated the development of a Strategic Plan and formulated a Management Development Program for all employees. The company has eleven plants and three thousand employees. Facilitated bringing in the first non-family CEO and a special management training program for family employees. Instituted a development program for non-employee shareholders.
- Developed a Family Board and a Succession Plan for a third generation manufacturing company in the mid-Atlantic owned jointly by two sisters. Overcame severe health problems and a troublesome past history to reestablish family ties and good business working relationships. Developed a Business Mission Statement, a Family Mission Statement, and a Strategic Plan.
- Facilitated the succession of a third generation service business in the southwest from a father to his natural son, adopted daughter, and three children from a second marriage. Brought in an interim, non-family CEO. Developed a Family Board and a dividend and compensation program. Helped develop an Estate Plan.
- Developed a Family Board and Family Council Structure for a fourth generation real estate management and development business in the Southwest. Instituted a family employment policy. Developed Family and Business Mission Statements and Developmental Goals. Facilitated biannual family retreats for family members and spouses emphasizing team building and education about the business.
- Facilitated the succession of a third generation publishing business in the Pacific Northwest from a father to his five children from three marriages. Developed business working relationships and emphasized family team building and business education in biannual family retreats which included spouses as well as "significant others". Helped negotiate an ownership consolidation.
- Developed a working structure for two brothers and a sister in a second-generation wholesale import distribution family in the Northwest. Developed a Mission Statement for the business and the family as well as a Strategic Plan. Instituted a planning process for the senior management team. Held Management Retreats for key staff.
- Assisted in an orderly distribution of business and other assets among family members in conflict over the ownership and management of their business in a third generation Southwest distribution company. Developed a Board Structure for the new entity going forward including a planning process and a compensation and dividend policy.
- Assisted in the succession of a third generation distribution and real estate company in the northeast from a father to his four children, three of whom worked in the business and one who did not. Developed a Family Board, Family Council, and Strategic Plan.
- Assisted three large family owned manufacturing businesses in the northeast to test the feasibility of merging into one company. Assessed the commonality of ownership, management philosophy, future strategic vision, and working relationships.
- Developed a Governance Structure for a third generation manufacturing business in the Pacific Northwest. Developed family and business skills in biannual retreats for the CEO who is the mother and her four children. Developed a Family Mission Statement, a Business Mission Statement, and family developmental goals.
- Facilitated the succession from a father to a son in a third generation distribution business in the Southwest. Developed a business plan, instituted a planning process, a Family Mission Statement, and a Business Mission Statement.
- Assisted a widow who had never worked in the business and her five children establish an ownership and management structure following the untimely and surprise death of her husband. Developed a Business Plan, Strategic Plan and assisted in Estate Planning.
