Scholarship in Honor of our late partner, Sam H. Lane
We would like to share with you a letter from Sam’s son, Houston, about a scholarship being established to honor Sam. The Aspen Family Business Group will be making a contribution to support this scholarship and honor Sam and his great work. We thought many of you might want to do the same.
Though it’s hard to imagine, it’s been seven months now since my father, Sam H. Lane III, passed away. As you can understand, this has been a time of deep grief and sorrow for my family and me. Throughout this time, however, we have also been blessed by the support of many friends and family members. Without the amazing thoughtfulness they have shown, making it through these difficult times would have been nearly impossible.
I’m writing specifically to let you know of the incredible gesture of one family friend in particular. These friends, who were also clients of my father’s, have stepped forward to lead the creation of a scholarship fund in my father’s memory. This fund would be for the benefit of a student at Texas Christian University, where my father earned both his Master’s and Doctorate degrees. It would assist a student pursuing a degree in business; our family would be involved in selecting applicants to receive the scholarship on an ongoing basis.
In order to create a perpetual memorial like this, the University requires an initial funding level of $50,000. The friends I mentioned earlier have very generously offered to match other contributions up to $25,000, thus ultimately funding half the amount of the initial gift, provided others step forward to supply the other half.
My family and I are overwhelmed by this incredible gesture. I’m writing to you in the event you might also be interested in participating in this unique opportunity to honor my father’s memory and enable a lasting memorial to his legacy. We are clearly hoping to raise the remaining $25,000 so that the gift can be perpetual.
If you are inclined to participate, you may make your tax-deductible charitable contribution directly to TCU, by sending funds (checks made payable to Texas Christian University) to:
David Dibble
Director of Development
Neeley School of Business, TCU
TCU Box 298530
Fort Worth, TX 76129
We will monitor the growth of the total gifts, and they will be matched as described at the end of this year.
It goes without saying that we will be truly honored by the willingness of others to remember my father in this thoughtful manner.
Thank you for your consideration of this issue, and very best regards,
Sam “Houston” Lane IV
