We are busy planning and preparing for our annual Aspen Family Business Gathering, August 6-9, Snowmass, CO. Over the years we have found families to be in very different places with regard to their readiness to work on the various transitions in which most participating family businesses find themselves. For some families, it is important just to come and listen to others, both the professionals and other participants, to gain perspective and see their situation in the light of others.
Other families already have begun planning, and the Gathering serves to help them go to the next level. All the families who come make some progress and almost all have definitive plans at the end of our time for moving forward in the future when they get home.
The range in composition of businesses and families that attend is notable. The enterprises range from very large with a number of family participants to smaller with only a few participants. The businesses span a complete spectrum of the manufacturing and service sectors.
